When you get frightened every Pedophobia causes persistent feeling of dread for childrentime you are around children, pedophobia is what you have. Fear of children can develop for a number of reasons. Often, this phobia can result from childhood experiences that are traumatic or distressful.

Pedophobia causes an overwhelming, persistent feeling of dread for children. An anxious reaction is often experienced by a pedophobe when in vicinity of children.

An individual who fears children will often wish for adult only surroundings, with no children allowed. He or she would also more likely prefer distancing themselves away from presence of children.

This is because they have a strong perception about children to be annoying, unruly, unpredictable, and also, irritating.

Moreover, those fearing children will, at an instance, get uptight or start to feel edgy when they sight children approaching them. They will instinctively (due to their phobia) take measures to work out a way that does away with scenarios where they have to face children.

Know Pedophobia Causes

A pedophobic fears children for reasons such as traumatic memories that recollect on watching children interact with each other or seeing children play.

If someone was harassed or pushed around as a child (by other children), a negative perception about children is already deep rooted in their psyche.

Painful memories may keep recurring as flashbacks that one strives to put out of mind. A mere sighting of children can act as a trigger in some pedophobes, and is among pedophobia causes.

It may also be a case where a phobic was denied loving care and attention during childhood. Such a person may feel increasingly jealous and develop pedophobia symptoms when around children who are loved and cared well for.

Identify Pedophobia Symptoms

A pedophobe will often feel panicky when around infants, are bereft of happiness and joy that a normal adult displays when around a child.

Here are some of the pedophobia symptoms:

  • Feelings of dread (around children)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Sweating
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Anxiety
  • Shaking
  • Panic

People with fear of children will most often avoid any type of interaction with children. They will work out ways to keep away from children and make sure that they have a safe distance between themselves and kids.

Pedophobia Treatment

It is not always possible to avoid children all the time, and avoidance, as such, is not a solution. So it is important to seek professional help.

A therapist can help identify the root cause and work out a suitable pedophobia treatment to ease your anxiety. This enables you to overcome your anxiety and live normally.

The therapist may employ methods such as behavioral therapy or exposure therapy, as deemed suitable for the patient. In some cases, medicines may also be prescribed in conjunction with therapy.

Whatever the mode of pedophobia treatment, the main focus is to encourage the patient face their object of fear in a practical way. Gradually the patient learns to control, and come to terms with their fear, and finally triumphs.
